Collaborative Editing in Edworking Docs and Task Descriptions
Edworking uses the BlockNote editor to provide real‑time collaboration inside documents and task descriptions. This means that every doc or task description can be edited by multiple team members at once, with changes syncing instantly across everyone’s screens. The editor combines a familiar Notion‑style block interface with multi‑cursor support and AI writing assistance.
Why collaboration matters
Collaborative editing eliminates version conflicts and encourages teamwork. Instead of sending files back and forth or waiting for someone to finish editing, you can work together on the same content. Edworking’s editor allows you to:
- See other participants’ cursors and selections in real time. Each user’s cursor is color‑coded and labelled to show who is typing or highlighting content.
- Write and format content together. Add headings, lists, code blocks, images and more without overwriting each other’s work.
- Leave comments and suggestions (with AI assistance, if desired) directly in the document.
- Enjoy conflict‑free editing—changes appear immediately across all connected clients.
Collaborating in documents
Follow these steps to collaborate with your team in an Edworking document:
- Open a document: Navigate to Docs from the left‑hand sidebar and open an existing document or create a new one.
- Share or assign access: The document inherits its access from the space it belongs to. Anyone with permission to the space can open and edit the doc. You can also share a doc externally by copying its public link (if enabled).
- Edit together: As teammates open the document, their cursors and selections become visible. You will see color‑coded pointers labelled with their names. When one person types or highlights text, everyone else sees these changes instantly. The screenshot below shows two collaborators editing the same document simultaneously—note the labeled selections and pointers:
In this example there are numbered instructions on how to test collaboration: two collaborators type the same words at the same time, highlight sentences and explore block options.
- Use block commands: Click the + button to insert new blocks like headings, bulleted lists, code snippets or images. Use the slash
/command for more options. Each block can be dragged or rearranged without interfering with others. - AI assistance: Press the spacebar to bring up Edworking’s AI writing assistant, which can help you brainstorm ideas, rephrase text or continue writing.

Collaborating in task descriptions
Task descriptions use the same BlockNote editor, which means collaboration works identically inside a task:
- Open a task: From the Tasks view, click a task card and then expand the Description field.
- Edit with your team: The description area displays the same block‑based editor as docs. Multiple team members can open the task and edit its description concurrently. You’ll see the same color‑coded cursors and labelled selections.
- Organize with blocks: Use headings, checklists, or bullet lists to structure the task description. The block options and AI writing assistant are available here too.
- Save automatically: Changes to the description sync instantly, so there’s no need to manually save or refresh. When you close the task, everyone else sees the updated description.
